The 2nd and 4th July were the real 175 celebrations for Cunard. Beginning in their homeport on a cloudy but dry July day, the Red Arrows had to cancel their 25 minute display at 3.05pm due to weather at Bournemouth airport. There was supposed to be a flypast instead but the cloud became too low during the interim. Then Mary sailed in glorious sunshine to Liverpool on time at 5.30pm.
Due to tides, Mary arrived in Liverpool for 12.30am. I’d decided not to ask my cousin for a lift! She was due to sail after 10pm fireworks. Since I’d bought a ticket for the Mersey ferry for that, it now left the whole day free. We had plans and unfortunately missed the last minute flypast by the Red Arrows because we were too far away but we had seen Balmoral sail to Llandudno in the haze.
In the evening, John dropped me off later for my boat trip while Jilly lent me her cardie and coat.
