Navigator of the Seas was the second Royal Caribbean ship to be based in the port back in 2007 after two successful seasons with the smaller Legend. Navigator was my first Royal Caribbean ship and the ONLY one to date where I was upgraded so I have a very big soft spot for her. The day she arrived, the brand new Liberty of the Seas was sailing to the US after her four day showcase.
Before Navigator had even arrived for what turned out to be her only season, it was announced Independence of the Seas would be replacing her from 2008 straight from the shipyard. Indy was my third RCI ship but first maiden voyage. Indy stayed until 2014 and during her stay completed two winter seasons in 2010 and 2011 before head office deemed them failures so she returned to Florida each winter.
In 2015 the brand new Anthem replaces Indy but it would appear to be just for this year. Could she be going to Barcelona instead of Allure in 2016 or staying in New York? One thing’s for certain, if all this is correct it continues the Royal Caribbean Musical Ships we so often witness but at least they will still have a presence in Southampton. Now if only they’d give us Vision all year round for those winter Canaries and Northern Lights cruises…. 😉
